21 Days to 7000 points!

Congratulations to you, Lin, as you and the other Elite members of IronSudoku prepare to celebrate the 7000 point mark that you will soon achieve.

However, may I ask you all to consider the plight of relative newcomers such as I who never have anything much to celebrate because the Who's Hot list doesn't follow its own published rules? The rules stipulate that we should be getting credit for all the points we have earned earn during the past 2 weeks, but the only points that are actually counted towards the Who's Hot ratings are those earned from completing puzzles PUBLISHED during the last 2 weeks. Some of us have earned 100 points or so in a 2-week period by completing expert puzzles from the archives but have received no more recognition than players who have only done the published puzzle every day for 2 weeks.

Sudoku is a game that only makes sense if the rules are followed precisely, so how come there seem to be so few of us that object to the fact that the IronSudoku board is not following its own rules for player rankings?

Not saying this is the correct way to do it, but maybe this is how heshould have explained the display.

I would think his ranking system need a big revision. On the left side, a player is a newbie until achieving well over 1700 points!?! He says 5%, but that is more like 25%. One is well past newbie by then. Likewise, pro and expert need redefining. I think one becomes a pro by doing maybe 1000 points. His system is still as though the website is a couple months old, not mature like it really is.

Okay, I see a newbie is 5% to 25%. But that means at an average of 2+/- a day, is probably well over two years of perfect work. NEWBIE???

DING. A bit slow at first, but it really picked up. 18.

Interesting comments, ElDubUC. You are certainly right that the term Newbie is not being used in a meaningful way. Couple that with the misrepresentation about what it takes to get to the top of the Who's Hot list and you have a website that does not seem very welcoming to newcomers like me.
