Tilly--by holding down the shift key, you can enter up to 9 possible numbers into each blank space. They are green.

Manually entering "greens" by holding down the shift key is the easiest way for me to keep track of possible values that can go into an empty cell. Many of the "advanced techniques" make use of recognizing patterns that occur among the greens after all possible greens have been filled into the grid. I must admit that learning how to work with greens is what made it possible for me to even consider working through the archived puzzles because I can now solve Sudokus a lot faster than I ever could before. Some puzzles still take me a long time because there are times when I have to "guess" because I have yet to master some of the more advance solution techniques.
